For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16 God's Word is clear. We serve a giving God. He gave of himself in sending his Son to die for the sins of the world. He is giving because that is his unchangeable nature. We are to be like him in every way possible. Romans 8:29 tells us we are "to be conformed to the image of his Son". His Son lived his entire life as a "gift" for our redemption and remission of sins. 2 Corinthians 9:7 says "God loveth a cheerful giver." As a father of 2 small children it is pure delight to hear my son say that he wants to do something like daddy when he grows up! Our heavenly father is no different. It is not that God is greedy or needs your money, but rather that he delights in seeing his children "be like daddy". Beyond that, He knows what a wonderful thing giving is for the soul, and delights in seeing us make good decisions for our own spiritual health. Learning to be a giving person is not just a good idea, but also a command from God. We are commanded to give to the church. In I Corinthians 9:14 Paul outlines that "they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel", and that the church should pay their ministers. These financial resources must come from the local body of Christ. We believe it is every believer's responsibility to tithe of their income to the church where they are being fed. Again, This is not because God or the pastors are greedy, but because it is God's nature and we are to be like him. The tithe is a "baby step" along the way to becoming a giving person. As you grow spiritually you will want to give other offerings such as time and personal talents; not just money. Giving is a wonderful part of our Christian life, but if you are only giving out of obligation or feel shamed into it; it's probably better if you hold off on giving and speak to your discipler or one of the pastors so you can get those questions cleared up. If you are ready to give and understand why you are giving then we provide the secure link below as a simple way to exercise your beliefs. |
